Friday, March 8:

Announcements:
Reminder:  There should be no snowball throwing at Keith School!
Commons: 
Students need to clean up the commons.  After every period it should be left clean.
Bake Sale: Today the freshmen class will hold a bake sale.
6th Grade:
The 6th grade class will hold a History Theater night today after school in room 311.  The cost is $3.00 and they will be watching “The Mummy” and discussing it afterward.
US Scholastic Bowl:
The US Scholastic Bowl sectionals will be held at Keith School tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. on the 3rd floor.
Teens in Print: 
Ms. Newman will be speaking at the Rockford Public Library on E. State Street tomorrow from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m.  Please stop and visit with her if you can.
Spring Forward:
Remember to set your clocks forward on Saturday night.
Latin Exam:
All Latin students in 7th – 12th grade will be taking the National Latin Exam on Tuesday during 2nd hour.  Students should bring #2 pencils with good erasers.
AP Exams: 
AP Exams will be held in May.  Registration forms have been mailed home.  Forms are expected back with payment for the exams by Friday, March 15.
Seniors: Please honor deadlines for your Senior Projects.  This is a graduation requirement.
Fundraiser: 
The Jr. class is sponsoring a fundraiser at Buffalo Wild Wings (E. State location) on Wednesday, March 13.  Eat at BWW and the Jr. Class will receive part of the proceeds.  
Mid-Quarter:
Next Friday is the end of the 3rd mid-quarter.
Congratulations!: Kevin Hart has been accepted into the summer program Latin in Rome of the University of Dallas. He will spend three weeks in July living in Rome, travelling, and taking an intensive survey of Latin literature. He will receive college credit for this course.
Certamen:
Keith’s Advanced Certamen Team of Ben Ross and Max Moore placed 2nd in the Illinois Certamen League West Regional Meet at  Barrington High School on February 13. It had been announced earlier that the team took third place, but a computation error had been made. Congratulations to Ben and Max for their second place win!
College News:
Ryan de Rosales has been accepted at Western Illinois University.  Jeannie Maeng has been accepted at the Savannah College of Art and Design, as well as the Massachusetts College of Art and Design.  Matt Greer has been accepted at North Central College and Northern Illinois University.  Kevin Zheng has been accepted at the University of Illinois.
Caring Wall: 
There is a wall covered in paper in the Gaylord Commons.  Use this wall to write encouraging notes to your friends or someone that you know who may need a little pick-me-up quote.
Exchange Program:
 Any students that are interested in exploring life abroad for 3 weeks in the summer should speak to Dr. Lee and get more information.
Volunteering: 
Several students, especially seniors, are needing volunteer hours.  Please check the bulletin board on the 3rd floor for posted opportunities.  Listed below is a sampling of what can be found on that bulletin board:

  • Rosie’s Birthday Club is looking for volunteers.  They sponsor birthday parties for underprivileged children.  See bulletin board for more information.
  • Students can volunteer for the Special Olympics at Harlem High School on May 4.  If you want more information, see Mrs. Walsh.
  • Students can hand out political flyers tomorrow.  Those interested should speak to Sophie Nicolosi today.
  • Rock Camp at Keith School may be looking for some student leadership.  See Dr. Dimke if you are interested.  Dates:  June 17-21 and June 24-28.

Clubs
Doctor Who Club:
Meeting today in room 302 after school.
Interact Club: The Interact Club has begun raising money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.  Receptacles have been placed around the upper school building.  Please drop in your spare change.
EnergyNet: The EnergyNet members are selling Bergner’s Coupon booklets for $5.00.
Ping Pong Club: 
Games to be played on the 3rd floor after school today.
SAB: 
SAB is sponsoring a Sadie Hawkins Dance tomorrow night for upper school students.  Tickets are $7.00/single or $10/couple.

Sports
Uniforms: Winter athletes should be turning in their CLEAN uniforms to Mr. Nunez.
Tennis:
Practice in the gym today after school.
Basketball:
The annual Faculty/staff vs. Students basketball game will be Thursday after school.

Butter Braids:
 Order forms are now due.  Please turn them in to Mrs. Schofield or Mrs. Doherty today.
MS Scholastic Bowl: The MS Scholastic Bowl team competed at Northwestern University last Saturday.  They placed 8th out of 30 teams.  Audrey Roh was selected to the All Tournament team.  Their next competition will be on March 16 in Barrington.  Practice today after school until 5:30 p.m.
US Scholastic Bowl: The US Scholastic Bowl competed on Monday and have been crowned regional champions!  Practice today and tomorrow after school.
IHSA Solo & Ensemble: Twenty-five upper school students competed at the IHSA Solo and Ensemble competition last Saturday.  Receiving Division I (Superior) ratings were the percussion ensemble, Elena Gottlick & Jacob Phillips (duet), Jacob Jang (bassoon solo – perfect score), Zoe Jensen (vocal solo), Rosemary, Basil, Women’s ensemble and Dodecaphonics.  Luke Miller (vocal solo) received a Division II (Excellent) rating.

ART: Several Keith student have artwork entered into the Rock Valley College Juried Art Show.  Opening night will be tonight  from 4:30 – 6:00 p.m.  Max Moore has already received notification that he has won a prize for his pottery entry into this show.

Fun Fair:
 Thank you to all the students that helped at the fun fair on Friday night!
Butter Braids: Order forms are now due.  Please turn them in to Mrs. Schofield or Mrs. Doherty today.
US Scholastic Bowl: Regional play begins today at Keith School.  A couple volunteers are still needed.  The team competed in the Masonic state competition last Saturday and won $100.  The team played very well.
Grades: 
Mid-quarter grade reports have been mailed home.  Now is the time to check NetClassroom and make sure the grades are pulled up where you they should be.
AP Exams: AP Exams will be held in May.  Registration forms have been mailed home.  Forms are expected back with payment for the exams by March 15.
