MSSG Rec Night – May 24th
Friday, May 24th will be the final MSSG Rec Night of the year. In honor of the 5th grade step up on Thursday, May 23rd, the 5th graders are invited to join the fun and enjoy their first, of many, middle school social events. There will be class competitions, tug of war, pie eating contests, “blind” volleyball, open gym, snacks, and music. The Rec Night will be held in the US gym and Commons from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The cost to attend is $5 to cover the cost of snacks and activities. MSSG will be using the money earned at this Rec Night to put together care packages for military service members overseas. We will be sending these packages to Captain Robert Martin’s army unit that is currently deployed in Northern Africa. Captain Martin is the father of 7th grader, Shelby Martin.

8th Grade “Lock In”
Immediately following the MSSG Rec Night, the 8th grade class, and several faculty members will be staying overnight for the 8th grade class “Lock In”. Students will stay up all night playing games, watching movies, and enjoying the evening with their classmates. There will also be a late night cookout and s’mores. The “Lock In” ends at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 25. Thank you to all of our faculty chaperones who are helping supervise this special night for the 8th graders!

Field Day Volunteers for Lower School and Lunch Plans
Ms. Hundertmark will be needing about 15 parent volunteers to assist with Field Day events on May 31 between 11:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Please let Mrs. Schofield or Ms. Hundertmark know if you can assist with any of the Field Day festivities.

Lunch for ALL Lower School students will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Field Day. Subway box lunches will be available to preorder. The Subway order forms have been sent home.

Easy Supply Shopping for Next School Year
The Lower School offers parents the opportunity to order supply kits for next August. The kits will be in the classroom on the first day of school in August–no need to shop in crowded stores! Order forms will be sent in the U.S. Mail. The orders are due by May 31 to Mrs. Schofield.

Tennis:  Good luck to the boys’ tennis team as they begin sectional play today at Guilford High School and Harlem High School.
Uniforms: All athletes MUST get their uniforms turned in to Mr. Nunez.  Athletes that wish to purchase their soccer uniforms can do so through Mr. Nunez at a cost of $10 each.

Junior Kinder students will also start at Starfall.com to review their choice of letter. Secondly, the students will go to Sheppard Software’s addition page to practice their math skills.

Kinder students are practicing their typing on Type to Learn and then navigating to a missing addend online activity on FueltheBrain.com to continue practicing this early pre-algebra skill.

First grade students will continue typing practice using Type to Learn. Then they will finish their work on their numbered lists titled, “Things I Learned in First Grade” so we can publish them. These are through Microsoft Word.

Second grade students are also practicing typing on Type to Learn. Then we will switch gears and complete Google Doc numbered lists entitled “How to Be a Good Friend.” These will be published at completion.

Third and fourth grade students will be wrapping up discussions on Internet and technology safety.

Fifth grade students will be completing an end-of-the-year survey using Google Forms.

Teacher Appreciation Week
A special thank you to the KPA for organizing the events for the faculty and staff during Teacher Appreciation Week. We feel appreciated and honored!

Lower School ERBs
Students in Grades 3, 4, and 5 will be taking achievement tests the week of May 13. Please be sure your child is in attendance every day, well rested, and prepared to demonstrate his/her best learning during examination sessions.

Technology Project
Thank you for your understanding with the early dismissal on Wednesday. Construction work was being done behind the Rhea Building as part of our technology upgrade project. All was going well until a Comcast contractor discovered an unmarked electrical line. All ended well as we had full electrical power by 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. We are very appreciative our Facilities Committee who worked late into Wednesday evening making sure all systems were operating for students and staff on Thursday.

Lower School Noah’s Ark Giving Project
The Lower School students and families did an amazing job raising money for Noah’s Ark Animal Sanctuary.
A total of $1,027.92 was raised along with donations of cleaning items, food, and beds for our pet friends.
The students learned about some of the Noah’s Ark programs directly from the Ark staff at a Friday Morning Meeting. The Student Council did a great job organizing this project, and consider our results a success!

Energy Net Light Fundraiser Orders Due
Orders for the Energy Net fundraiser are due on May 13 to an Energy Net member.

First grade students will start an end-of-the school year numbered list. The title will be “Things I Learned in First Grade.”

Second grade students will create a numbered list in Google Docs. The title of the list will be “How To Be a Good Friend.”

Both third and fourth grade students will be learning about Internet and technology safety this week.

Fifth grade students are continuing their hard work on their nonfiction websites.

Cookies: The freshmen class is selling cookies today for $1.25.
Early Dismissal: Yesterday, Keith School experienced an electrical outage that was not to have been resolved before the end of the school day.  Com Ed stated there was never a danger, they simply asked for everyone to be off campus while they repaired the affected line.  Thank you for complying with their wishes.
Blood Drive: For several reasons the blood drive at Keith School had to be postponed yesterday.  The National Honor Society will make an announcement if and when it is rescheduled.
Yearbooks: Any student that would like to order a yearbook must have turned in $50 to the business office by the end of the day tomorrow.

• The Illinois Scholastic Bowl coaches have voted Max Moore to 2nd team All-State and Ben Ross to 1st team All-State.  Mr. & Mrs. Fischer were also recognized for their dedication to the Scholastic Bowl program.
• Ben Ross was selected by the Rockford Register Star as a Young American medal winner.
• Certificates were distributed this morning for those receiving All State honors in either orchestra, band or chorus.  Congratulations to Elena Gottlick, Luke Miller, Jacob Jang, Zoe Jensen, Ben Ross & Ryan Williams.

Kite Day At Rockford College
Due to inclement weather, we will not have Kite Day at Rockford College on May 3. Due to a very busy May schedule Kite Day activities will take place with individual classrooms, not the entire school. Look for information from your child’s teacher about classroom Kate Day activities. We do want to continue this 96 year Keith School tradition.

RSVP for Grandparents’ Day
Be sure we have your RSVPs for Grandparents’ Day. We want to be sure we are planning for all our grandparents! Questions, please see Mrs. Schofield.

Concert on May 7
Please join us for an uplifting concert with the MS/US Choirs and Jazz Band.

Students participating should wear black and white concert attire. Dodecaphonics need to be ready for warm-ups at 6:00 p.m., MS and US choir students should meet in the art room at 6:15 p.m., and band students should arrive by 6:30 p.m.

Shayaan Naseer Selected for Prestigious Internship
Shayaan Naseer has been selected for a highly competitive summer internship program sponsored by the University of Illinois College of Medicine and Thermo Fisher Scientific. Selected students for the eight-week program will have the opportunity to work directly with senior scientists to learn hands-on laboratory and technical skills. Congratulations to Shayaan and his parents!

Summer Camps At Keith
There will be many enrichment camps on the Keith campus this summer. Brochures about summer camp experiences are available from Mrs. Doherty and Mrs. Schofield.

Re-enrollment Contracts
We are starting to enroll new students. If you have not turned in your enrollment contract, please let us know your intent to return to Keith.

First grade students are working on a friendly letter in Microsoft Word; this will come home for their grown-ups to see this week.

Second grade students are finishing up name art pieces using Google Drawings and will be composing a friendly letter to a special family member using Google Docs.

Third grade students will be typing their biography poems for the wax museum. If there is time, we may start our discussion of Internet and technology safety.

Fourth grade students will be finishing up their Illinois brochures. If we have time, we will start our discussion of Internet and technology safety and best practices.

Fifth grade students will focus on entering their finished written work from their nonfiction research projects into their Google Sites.

Friday: All middle and upper school students will report to homeroom for attendance and the meet in the US gym.  The Harmonettes from the University of Michigan will be performing during morning meeting time.
Leadership Conference: Six Keith upper school students will be attending the Hispanic High School Leadership Conference at Rock Valley College tomorrow.
Ceramics: Tomorrow, the Ceramics classes will be having a cookout as a fundraiser beginning at 1:00 p.m.
End of Quarter: Tomorrow marks the end of the 4th mid-quarter.

Soccer: The Lady Cougars have away game today.  They will need to leave immediately following the assembly.  Their last home game will be tomorrow at 5:00 p.m. at the ISC.
Golf: Students interested in golfing with Mr. Stott should speak to him today to set up some practice times.
Uniforms: The boys’ soccer team members need to turn in their uniforms and their jackets to Mr. Nunez.

Announcements:
6th Grade: The 6th graders will have rehearsals for their showcase each day after school in the commons.  All students that are not involved in the showcase are asked to leave the commons area and respect those that are rehearsing.
Tomorrow: The National Honor Society inductions will be tomorrow at 2:45 p.m. in the Gaylord Commons.  This is a black and white dress day for everyone.
Ceramics: On Friday the Ceramics classes will be having a cookout as a fundraiser beginning at 1:00 p.m.
End of Quarter: Friday marks the end of the 4th mid-quarter.
Math Competition: The math team will compete this Saturday.  There are a couple spots open for freshmen and sophomores.  See Mr. Fischer if you are interested.
Fundraiser: The junior class is selling t-shirts for each class, the faculty and the staff.  The cost of the t-shirts is $15.  Orders will be accepted through May 3.

Amnesty International: Amnesty is sponsoring a dirt cup sale today.
MS Dissection Club: Meeting tomorrow after school in room 207.
Glamour Gals: The Glamour Gals will meet tomorrow after school and will be going off campus on Friday after school.
EnergyNet: The EnergyNet students are selling light bulbs.  See an ENet member to order.

Fine Arts Week: Thank you all for a great week celebrating the Fine Arts at Keith School!
Walk-a-thon: Several students participated in the walk-a-thon on Friday.  All monies raised will benefit the students at Keith.
