Mrs. Scott is a creative and engaging junior kindergarten teacher with several years of experience working with young children and students with special needs.
After graduating from Rock Valley College with an Associate of Arts degree, Mrs. Scott earned a Bachelor of Science in education with an emphasis in physical and health education from Northern Illinois University.
Mrs. Scott began her career as an early childhood educator at Trinity Day Care in Rockford where she worked in conjunction with a teaching team to develop lesson plans for two-year-old students. While there, she enhanced the facility’s physical education program by creating a reference book of developmentally appropriate P.E. activities and managing the gymnasium equipment for improved center-wide use.
Following her time at Trinity, Mrs. Scott worked as a P.E. and health teacher at RESA middle school in Rockford Public Schools District 205 where she created meaningful activities for students with special needs. This included developing a recreational P.E. class that incorporated yoga, Pilates, disc golf, volleyball, softball, swim, team-building, and other activities. During this time, she also participated in the RPS 205 mentor program and coordinated with the American Heart Association to utilize the Jump Rope for Heart program at RESA.
In her most recent teaching position Mrs. Scott was a pre-K educator at First Step Learning in Belvidere, Illinois, working with colleagues to maintain a high level of learning while creating an inclusive environment for children with special needs. She also implemented P.E.-based large motor activity time to enhance the student experience.
In addition to teaching, Mrs. Scott owns a freelance photography practice that allows her to flex her creative muscles outside the classroom.
