Mr. Newcomer is an enthusiastic educator with a diverse professional background as a teacher and business leader.
He began his career as a math and science teacher at Harlem Regional Alternative School in Machesney Park, Illinois. There he was responsible for guiding students through an online curriculum, creating supplemental lessons to increase engagement and understanding, and maintaining an inviting classroom atmosphere.
Following his time at Harlem Regional Alternative School, Mr. Newcomer joined the Keith staff as a math and science teacher. During this time, he coached the school’s cross country and track teams which ignited his passion for mentoring and supporting students.
Most recently, Mr. Newcomer served as chief operating officer of Riveted Games, an innovative and independent gaming studio, ensuring both the day-to-day and long-term success of the company as well as guiding, mentoring, and leading cross-functional teams across the organization. At Riveted, Mr. Newcomer honed his skills for taking a vision, mapping it out into achievable milestones, and working with stakeholders to bring that vision to life. He brings the same attention to detail and relationship-building skills into his role as science teacher and college counselor, helping Keith students define their long-term goals and finding opportunities to differentiate them throughout the college application process.
Taking a proactive approach to counseling, Mr. Newcomer believes that with strong support and guidance beginning at any early age, students will be set up for long-term academic and professional success. While offering specific guidance for junior and senior students, he takes a comprehensive, school-wide approach to college counseling that will help students at all grade levels thrive and maximize their true potential.
Mr. Newcomer graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh with a Bachelor of Science in chemistry. He also holds a Master of Arts in teaching from the University of Iowa.
